Current Projects:

Cooper Institute Cancer Website Research Project
Encourages people to eat more fruits and vegetables to improve health and prevent disease by way of the 5-A-Day the Rio Grande Way website.  The project is funded by the National Cancer Institute and Produce for Better Health Foundation and is designed specifically for and by the adults in the Upper Rio Grande Valley.  Free Internet training to participants is provided.

A colorful, fun-filled, annual festival providing opportunity for community organizations, non-profits, for-profits and other entities to showcase their contributions to the San Luis Valley community. The festival alternates between Alamosa and Monte Vista.

Services are professionally and personally developed to meet your needs.  Includes facilitation, events organizing, and workshops or trainings.  A free initial consultation assesses your organization's needs.
Coming  Alive
A12-week worksite fitness program that encourages businesses to provide a supportive environment for physically active employees.  Both employees and employers benefit from healthy active lifestyles.  This is a community-based collaboration.
  San Luis Valley Philanthropy Days 2003
SLVCC facilitated a community-wide working group that developed an event to introduce philanthropists to the San Luis Valley and trained non-profit organizations in the nuances of fundraising.  This was facilitated in partnership with Valley Community Fund and a dedicated group of SLV volunteers.

Youth Alliance

Youth work to prevent and reduce tobacco use through multi-faceted education strategies and special events, such as the Get R!EAL (Resist and Expose Advertising Lies) road tour.  This collaborative effort with the six SLV County Nursing Services is funded by STEPP (State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership.  
Reach Out & Read/Reading is Fundamental Early Childhood Literacy Programs
Health care providers promote reading to children and give new books at well child check-ups.  Volunteer readers model reading to children in clinic waiting rooms and educate parents about the importance of good reading skills.
  Healthy Habits
The Healthy Habits Group is a local nutrition network composed of representatives from several valley agencies.  The group aims to increase awareness of the importance of healthy eating and daily physical activity to maintain an all around healthy lifestyle.
  Community Index Project
The Community Health Profile (1997) and "A Glimpse of What is Happening in Our Community:  A San Luis Valley Community Health Report" (1999) are available.

  • Initiated in 1994 through a collaborative effort between San Luis Valley Development Resources Group and Valley-Wide Health Systems.
  • Housed with Valley-Wide Health Systems.
  • Involves private citizens, non-profits, government and business to identify, leverage, and celebrate strengths and resources within our Valley's community.
  • Supported through state, national and foundation grants as well as local donations, community volunteers and fee-for-service contracts.
  • Utilizes issue-driven workgroups and committees to address areas identified by concerned San Luis Valley citizens.
