WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. This is a federally-funded nutrition program that provides nutrition education, healthful foods, and heath referrals to women, infants, and children who qualify.
Eligibility
- Pregnant Women (through pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after birth or after pregnancy ends) One in four new mothers participate in WIC.
- Breastfeeding Women (up to infant's 1st birthday)
- Non-breastfeeding Postpartum Women (up to 6 months after the birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends)
- Infants (up to 1st birthday) WIC serves 45 percent of all infants born in the United States
- Participants do not have to be U.S. citizens
Benefits

Supplemental nutritious foods-participants receive checks for milk, cereals, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, beans juices, and infant formula. Breastfeeding moms also receive tuna and carrots.

Nutrition education and counseling at WIC clinics.

Nutrition screening and referrals to other health, welfare, and social services.
